thanks for the visit, it certainly takes some patience to keep coming to a web site that has not been updated (except the pics) since more than a year. I am a really lousy webmaster. Anyway, I am happy to announce that the destination for this New Years Eve has been chosen. It is a city which except few but marvellous monuments holds little appeal for an outsider but which I suppose will always have a little spot reserved in our hearts... ATHENS. I will be there and so will Fabri, Steffen and Liesa ... and ... hopefully YOU! Please contact Fabri for further info...
November 5, 2010
I hope that you are all doing well. Time is really flying, it feels almost like yesterday when we were in Barcelona, enjoying another great New Years reunion and yet it is almost summer now. And thus another opportunity to see each other. This time, thanks to our Fabri in ... SARDINIA! So, hurry up and write him. I will be there from July 27, 2009 till August 9, 2009. Steffen has also already booked his flight.
April 30, 2009
as mentioned in my e-mail, Fabrizio, Steffen and I decided to book our accommodation which we finally did earlier today. We will be staying in Centric Point Hostel. Since I would not call their on-line booking system user friendly, you can have a look here.
And if you do not want to stay in the same hostel as us and prefer to stay with Sandra (I do not blame you), have a look here.

Dear all, I suppose that you have already heard the news. If not, I am pleased to announce that this New Years eve celebration is going to take place in Barcelona.
As soon as I have further news, I will try to force myself to post it here and keep the site up-to-date.
September 20, 2008
Hi everybody, how is it going?
I hope that you are all doing well. It has been a long time sinceI had posted any news here. But now I feel that the time has come.
Until recently a I had been thinking that the next thing I will post here will be news about my arrival from Greece and about the great time I had there. Unfortunately this did not work out for me as I had planned and I had to stay in Prague whole summer and work. Missing the trip to Greece is further reason why I am now even more looking forward for our next meeting which I suppose should be New Years Eve.
Therefore, please send me an e-mail, SMS, messenger pigeon, telepathic message or do whatever it takes to tell me if you have any news so that I can post it here.
September 8, 2008
First of all, I would like to thank you all for coming to Prague for this New Year's eve. It was really great pleasure for me to welcome you in my town and I hope that you enjoyed these days as much as I did.
I added new gallery and I will try to. As always, it is not possible to download or save pictures from the gallery, but I had to decrease their resolution etc. in order to make viewing the gallery as convenient as possible. I will add pictures in better resolution later as I did last year. Please be patient with me. In the meanwhile, you can download this (if you are still thinking that I am a nice and decent guy, you should maybe just ignore that link). Do you know where were these pictures taken from? I can not say that these are the best pictures I have ever taken, but they are definitely interesting :-)
I have just noticed that this gallery is quite slower than the older ones and it is not really convenient to browse through the pictures. I will try to do something about it but right now I have no idea what is wrong, size of the pictures should not be the problem.
Πράγα - Παραμονή Πρωτοχρονιάς
As I have suggested in my last e-mail I would like to organise this New Years Eve in Prague (or at least I will do my best to do so). I suppose this is likely the main reason why you are at this website right now - to find more info I promised to post here in my e-mail (if this is not the case and you are just curious whether something has changed since your last visit, apart from domain name, I am afraid you may be a bit disappointed as there is nothing new here except one gallery with pictures from our meeting in Italy this August).
I have completely forgotten to tell you one more thing that I had in mind. Even though I do not think that the situation in Prague is much worse than in other big cities in Europe I would like to ask you to be careful with your belongings. There are many pickpokets in Prague especially in the centre. I do not want to scare you, I have never been robbed myself, but it is always better to be careful, especially in the metro and other means of public transportation as well as crowded public places.
Apart from pickpockets you should be careful also in case that you take a taxi. You should not negotiate the price with the driver before the ride. Such price would be likely much higher tham what you would pay if the driver had used the taximeter. Therefore you should insist that the driver uses the taximeter (or how is the device installed in a taxi that calculates the price called).
I would also like to give you my phone number: 00420 605 871 460
as mentioned in my e-mail, this should be the final update regarding the information you will need before your arrival in Prague. Please let me know if there is anything else you would like to know. The first issue to discuss should be the public transportation tickets.
Basically there are two options - you can buy either single tickets for each trip (20 CZK, valid for 75 minutes, within this period you can travel without any limitation) or a ticket for a longer period (1 day for 80 CZK, 3 days 220 CZK, 7 days 280 CZK). As you can see if you are staying for more than three days and do not want to buy single tickets the best option will be the 7-day ticket. However, I am not sure wheter you will use more than 2-3 single tickets each day as the city center is not that large and sometimes it is faster to walk (for example if you travel just to the next metro station and you add the time you will spend going down and then back to the surface, it is better to walk). Therefore the main advantage of these 1/3/7 - day tickets is that you do not have to worry about validating your ticket before every trip. These prices should change (increase) from January 1, 2008 on.
You can buy the tickets at the metro station (there is kind of office at almost every station as far as I can remember). You can also use the vending machines, but you can buy just single tickets there. ALso the bus drivers are selling the single tickets (you have to pay 25 CZK though). I suppose that the biggest issue will be buying your first ticket after your arrival since you will not have any CZK with you. This is one of the reasons why I will try to come and pick you up at the airport (I already know that I will not make it to the railway station), other being the public transport system, which is I think very good, but definitely not tourst-friendly as all signs, most announcements, etc. are just in Czech).
As for the directions from airport / railway station tot he hostel, you can download them below. As mentioned, I decided not to send these files by e-mail in order to avoid problems with anti-spam filters.
From airport to Arpacay hostel (I would recommend the route 1)
route 1 bus No. 119 from Terminál 1 to Dejvická, metro A-line from Dejvická to Můstek, metro B-line from Můstek to Anděl, tram No. 6 from Anděl to Křížová
route 2 bus No 119 from Terminál 1 to Dejvická, tram No. 20 from Dejvická to Švandovo divadlo, tram No. 6 from Švandovo divadlo to Křížová
route 3 bus No. 100 from Terminál 1 to Zličín, metro B-line from Zličín to Anděl, tram No. 6 from Anděl to Křížová
route 4 bus No. 119 from Terminál 1 to Dejvická, metro A-line from Dejvická to Malostranská, tram No. 20 from Malostranská to Švandovo divadlo, tram No. 6 from Švandovo divadlo to Křížová
night bus bus No. 510 from Terminál 1 to Bucharova, bus No. 508 from Bucharova to Křížová
From Nádraží Holešovice railway station to Arpacay hostel (I would recommend taking the metro)
route 5 tram No. 17 from Nádraží Holešovice to Národní divadlo, tram No. 6 from Národní divadlo to Křížová
route 6 metro C-line from Nádraží Holešovice to Florenc, metro B-line from Florenc to Anděl, tram No. 6 from Anděl to Křížová
From airport to Klamovka hostel (I would suggest taking the bus No. 119, there are several bus and tram stops at Dejvicka, this picture should help you to find the right one)
route 9 bus No. 119 from Terminál 1 to Dejvická, bus No. 217 from Dejvicka to Klamovka
route 10 bus No. 225 form Terminál 1 to Slánská, tram No. 10 from Slánská to Klamovka
From Nádraží Holešovice railway station to Klamovka hostel
route 11 metro C-line from Nádraží Holešovice to Florenc, metro B-line from Florenc to Anděl, tram No. 10 from Anděl to Klamovka
route 12 metro C-line from Nádraží Holešovice to I.P.Pavlova, tram No. 4 or 10 from I.P.Pavlova to Klamovka
This picture shows the way from Klamovka tram stop to the hostel. The sign No. 9 on the picture is the tram stop and the sign No. 4 is the hostel.
From airport to Shelter hostel
route 8 bus No. 119 from Terminál 1 to Dejvická, metro A-line from Dejvická to Můstek.
Můstek metro station is quite confusing and therefore choosing the right exit is quite important. It is difficult to describe it here as there are really many exits. The most important is to avoid exit to Můstek and Na Příkopě which is how the lower part of the Wenceslas square. Therefore you should follow directions to Vodičkova street. If you choose the right exit this picture should help you to find the hostel.
You can also have a look at the web site of the public transportation company, where you can find information also in English. There is also an application called journey planner, which is really good, but you have to know the name of the place where you are going, preferably the name of the station.
As for other info, the most important i.e. info regarding our currency CZK was mentioned in my last e-mail. If you are staying in the Arpacay hostel, you can pay with your card, they should accept almost all cards (VISA, MASTERCARD, MAESTRO, etc.). In the Klamovka hostel only payment in cash is possible. I will discuss this with you Steffen in an e-mail. Both hostels should offer linen, towels, etc. and therefore you do not have to bring your sleepingbags with you. However, those who prefer to stay really warm during the night and do not want to use the eastern-european way of internal heating i.e. alcohol, can bring it anyway :-)
I do not know what else I should mention. The last thing I can thing of is the New Years eve. I will leave it up to you if you want to bring a bottle of some good staff, but we will not need it for the New Years eve itself. So unless you want to drink it some other night, please do not bring anything. And remember, there is pleanty of the Czech liquid-bread here (i.e. beer)!
I hope that you all will have a Merry Christmas !
If you are not coming to Prague and I will not therefore have the pleasure to see you and wish you in person, I would like to use this opportunity to wish you also a Happy New Year!
I am really glad that I can finally post some news concerning New Years Eve 2007 and especially accomodation. Doro with her sister and Fabienne and also Fabrizio and Angel will be staying in this hostel. If you have a look at their website, you should not believe everything that is written there, especially concerning the prices. Do not take me wrong, these are real prices including everything - breakfast, VAT, etc., but it is not as cheap as they would like you to believe. On the other hand it is not so expensive either (not for period around Christmas and New Yeras Eve anyway). From my experience (and from what I have learned while I was looking for hostels over the last month) this is kind of super-high-season in Prague, as is also apparent from the price lists of other hostels (these are more than double compared to low season). I can compare it for example with Budapest during top season there, which is the weekend of Hungarian Grand Prix and have to admit that it is much easier to find accomodation for that weekend just few days in advance (and also much cheaper) than in Prague for New Years Eve.
Anyway, if you prefer cheaper accomodation, in this hostel there are still beds available in dormitory rooms (6 bed-rooms with shared bathroom) and this hostel is not far away from Arpacay hostel (please note that all other rooms in this place are booked).
There should be still beds / rooms available at Arpacay hostel (at least there were when I spoke with the girl from reception) even though I can not tell much more since the only way to really find out is to try to book a room and wait for an answer (I know it sounds stupid, but this is according to hostel staff the only way to find out, they allegedly can not tell me the accurate numbers over the phone, strange). But most other hostels are completely booked (even though some people can still cancel their reservations), except of course those far from the centre.
If you have any questions concerning New Years Eve, please let me know
It seems that there is one comment missing on the website of that hostel (SPUS ladvi, see below), which would say that their staff is completely incompetent. When I called them this Monday they told me that they still have capacity available for the turn of the year. But nevermind, we will find something else, there are many hostels in Prague – there are some listed on the same site as that hostel I had in mind. However not all offer online booking which should not be problem, I can book it for you. But you first have to tell me if you prefer to book a room or just beds, etc. You can also have a look here.
The problem is that if you / I book it now, there is no way to guarantee that there will be capacity available later when others want to book. Therefore it could be the best solution to choose some big place, as is the one at the top of the list on the website mentioned above (please note that it has variety of rooms and the pictures on the website are definitely from the expensive ones L ).
Just one more thing – if you would want to book a room / bed online, it should be fine if you can pay the reservation with a card. However if they just give you their bank account number, it would be better if I do it (not because you should not trust them, but if they have account in a czech bank, you would have to pay a lot on banking fees and you would have to be careful to choose the right option, that is tha you pay these fees, otherwise they would be deduced from the payment and the hostel yould complain that you have not paid the whole reservation fee).
Due to above mentioned following information is (in part) outdated:
As to the New Years Eve, first and foremost I would like to apologize for not offering you to stay in my place, but right now I am still staying in my parents apartment which is unfortunately rather small and unless there are aome last minute changes my parents are planning to stay at home this New Years Eve. Until end of July I was thinking that in August or September I could maybe start looking forother place to stay, but then instead of looking for some place in August I was looking for a new job. But there are many hostels in Prague co please let me know if you have something more specific in mind concerning accomodation. And please have a look here, this is one hostel I have in mind. It looks like some place in a village and it may seem far from the city centre, but its just 5 minutes walk from a metro station and since its in the northern suburbs, it takes just few minutes by metro to get to the centre.
If you are looking for flights to Prague, do not forget to check out following websites:
Unfortunately just few low-cost airlines are operating flights to Prague. As for number of destinations, Skyeurope is the best. They also have quite reasonable prices. On the other hand Easyjet is flying to Prague from just few European airports. And Germanwings are flying just to one city in Germany. Therefore you should also check buses if you want to go to Prague for example from Germany. There are more companies operating buses to / from Prague, but I know just this one that offers online booking (you can switch to english version - there is a small UK flag in the left-hand upper corner):
You can of course try also trains, but unfortunately Czech Railways offer online booking for some trains only and so you should try websites of Companies in your coutry. There is little else I can say about trains since I usually take bus if I can choose, but for example Czech Railways offer express train connection to Vienna.
I hope that many of us will join the meeting this year. Please let me know as soon as you know when you will come to Prague. As for arrival and departure dates, I will leave this up to you. As soon as you know the date for sure, please let me know so that I can post it here (in chronological order, otherwise fabrizio would never make it to the top of the list :-). I am sure it will make this decision easier for those who still have to decide.
Fabrizio 28th December - 4th January
Dorothee 28th December - 2nd January
Delphine 28th December - 2nd January
Fabienne 29th December - 2nd January
Angel 28th December - 2nd January
Erik 31st December - 3rd January
Sandra 31st December - 1st January
Steffen 28th December - 1st January
Alli 28th December - 1st January
Clausi 30th December - 1st January
Amy 28th December - 2nd January
Florian 28th December - 2nd January
Eleonore 28th December - 2nd January ?
AND OF COURSE IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, PLEASE LET ME KNOW. I PROMISE I WILL TRY TO ANSWER AS SOON AS POSSIBLE :-)
First of all let me tell you that I am really glad that you found your way to this web site. I am not doing this only for myself after all . It was quite difficult task to sort out all the pictures I took in Greece and to choose those few you can see in the galleries. Since I was at first limited by the space available for this presentation, I decided to use just mine pictures with maybe one or two exceptions. It also made the selection easier as this excluded few thousands pictures.
Update: I finally managed to add few more galleries, this time using also other pictures than mine - unfortunately I did not take many pictures at parties. I still have to add some pictures from Ostria bar.
I will appreciate your suggestions and reactions (even critical ones ). If you encounter some problems viewing one of the galleries, please contact me either by e-mail or by posting a message here. It can also happen that some galleries are temporarily unaccessible, because I am trying to resize the pictures to speed up loading times. Original pictures were too big to load in a reasonable time unless you had really fast broadband connection. You may not see the thumbnails at the bottom of the page (especially if there are vertical pictures), due to lower resolution of your screen, but you can use also control panel at the right bottom edge or cursor keys to browse through the galleries. Unfortunately it is not possible to save pictures to your hard drive. I made first couple of galleries some time ago and then abandoned the idea. I wanted to see what galleries designed in Flash would look like in the first place and later I was too lazy to do everything again.
Ιταλία - Σεπτέμβριος
As you most likely already know, next Erasmus meeting is taking place this September in Luigistan, I mean in Italy - country of world champions, players who often confuse football field with theater stage and corruption which turned Seria A into village league of some sort. Well it seems that I am sleeping in the street if Luigi (Fabrizio) reads this, but never mind, weather will be nice. I just wanted to tell you that I am going for sure (from 10th till 17th) and so does Steffen. And of course Fabrizio will be there. I also know that Don and Eleonore will maybe join us, so do not hesitate and book tickets as well. For further information, please contact Fabrizio.
Luigi (or Fabrizio as he calls himself) made a very good job organising this meeting. I would like to thank him and his family once more for being great hosts. It was my second visit to Italy and better in every way (for example, noone tried to persuade me to go to church on Sunday in the morning:-) I have to admit that I have not played so much table football in my entire life as during this week in Italy and I think that I can say the same about Steffen. It was sometimes almost annoying but nevertheless after many hours we managed to master this game and thanks to this 14th of September should be remembered forever. I think that our Parliament should pass a law declaring this day a national holiday. Because on this day, shortly before midnight, joint German-Czech team managed to beat "Campioni del Mondo".
Βερολίνο - Παραμονή Πρωτοχρονιάς
As you already know, thanks those of us who are not as lazy as me, Berlin is the place to be in for New Year's Eve this year. I have to admit that I had to look these words up in dictionary and still have a feeling that I have never seen them in Greece. I hope that many of us will join again this year (thanks again Amy and Doro for last New Year's Eve, it was great). If you are interested in some details, you should contact Sandra or Martin. I just know that we will be staying in a hostel called "Globetrotter" in Berlin. I will be there from 29th till 3rd of January.
I will try to keep this site up to date if I learn some news.
I can finally add more details. As I have already mentioned, we (Eleonore, Fabrizio, Martin, Steffen and me) will be staying Globetrotter hostel - this is no news. But now we have a room booked from 28th till 3rd - thank you, Martin, for taking care of this.
Year 2006 is a history. It was great to be in Berlin to say farewell and welcome new year 2007. Sandra did very good job organising our reunion and I would like to thank her once more for doing it. In the left hand side bottom corner you can find some pictures. As I promised, I will put here my pictures in full resolution later. But for the time being I will ask you to be patient with me. I have no internet connection at home right now and uploading this amount of data from school would take a long time. As soon as I have internet at home again, I will also share picters on Ringo.com.
I have finally fulfilled my promise and so ... (fanfare, cheering, standing ovation, etc.) ... you can now download mine pictures from here. Well actually not directly from here since I did not want to put the link right on this page, since I will delete them later (in May) and I do not want to have "dead" links here and also because someone could find few of these pictures too personal to be so easy to access and download. I hope I sent the link to everyone who spent New Years Eve 2006 in Berlin with us and if I have forgotten someone, please let me know and I will (apart from feeling stupid) send you that link. Of course the same goes also for those who could not join us and would like to see how much fun we had (and pictures in gallery did not satisfy their curiosity) and do not mind downloading some 700 Mbs.
Ελλάδα - Απρίλιος 2007
As you already know (if you reas Steffen's e-mail), we (me, Steffen and Fabrizio) are planing a trip to Greece in April. But, first of all, we are going to meet in Italy and got o Fabrizio's graduation party (I do not know any details yet, but I hope that (even though it sounds a bit formal) it won't be inappropriate to get wasted there. And since me and Steffen have finished our studies by now, it will be our party as well.
But let's return back to the main topic - Greece. Since I am (more than just) a bit lazy, I will just copy / paste some details from Steffen's e-mail here:
"Fabri and me will take his Fiat 500 :-) around the 3th of April and go to Acona (450km) to take the ferry to Greece (Igoumenitsa).
We will see some things in Italy and in the north-west of Greece. Of course we want to be in Athens as well at the 9th of April to hit our Czeck malaka. We will probably be in Athens for a week, until 15./16.04. At the 13th of April a good female friend of mine from Germany will join us in Athens. Also Jasmin (from Austria - for those who where in Athens in the first semester) will probably join us in Athens around the 16th.
After the stay in Athens we will take a car to make a trip somewhere. We also could see an island. These details we will decide in Athens compared to the preferences of us."
I will arrive in Athens on 9th in the morning (very early) and should meet Fabrizio and Steffen later that day (I hope that this saying: Italian cars are like Italian men - look nice but are not very reliable is not true) and I will leave on 30th (of April unfortunately). We do not have any particular plans yet, but since we are staying first few days in Athens, I think that at least for Thursday evening it is already clear what we are gonna do.
If you are interested in joining us please let us know. And if you can't, come back here again in May to see what a great time we had - I will again put some pictures here when I come back to Prague.
You were th visitor of this web site. I hope that it was not your last visit.
